Meet Janetta

Raised in Guangzhou, China, Janetta Tang received her first 1/4 size violin as a birthday gift at the age of 5. She started violin lessons with Rong Wu two years later when she had the inspiration for a performance of Zigeunerweisen by a 10-year-old violinist. Under the learning of Ms. Wu, Janetta developed solid violin technique from Suzuki methods, with the combination of Ms. Wu's military string pedagogy. At the age of 10, Janetta was introduced to Guangzhou Little Angels Symphony Orchestra. Through LASO, Janetta fell in love with not only orchestral music with performances inside and outside China, including cities of Xiamen, Guilin, London, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. She also played string quartets and other ensembles with the orchestra, which enriched her playing experiences.

Janetta received her bachelor's degree from South China Normal University in Guangzhou, majoring in Solfeggio and Ear Training. In 2013, Janetta studied with Dr. Kia-Hui Tan at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She earned her master's degree in Violin Performance minoring in string pedagogy.

Since college years, Janetta has taught over 60 violin students ranged from 4 to 17. She also has taught music theory and ear training classes at Meilin High School in Shenzhen, China, helping seniors prepare for the college entrance exam. During the study at OSU, Janetta has taught violin and viola lessons in Jefferson Music Academy, and has helped the the academy to hold 5 student recitals.

Since moved to Texas in summer 2015, Janetta has held positions as an orchestra assistant in Frisco ISD, violin and viola teacher in Allen, Mckinney, and Plano ISD, and has worked as a judge for Texas All-Region Competition and Solo-Ensemble Contests. Janetta also dedicates to the performing world- She is the Associate Principal Second Violin of Allen Philharmonic, a core member of Sherman Symphony, Lewisville Lake Symphony, Stonebriar Community Church Orchestra and First United Methodist Church Orchestra. She also actively performs with East Texas Symphony Orchestra in Tyler, TX. Janetta has a broad range of orchestral repertory, including The Rite of Spring, Prokofiev Symphony No. 7, Beethoven Symphonies and etc. Having such an abundant performing experience allows her to comprehensively give instructions to students for their All-Region/All-State excerpts Prep and orchestra auditions.

Janetta practically combines her performing experiences with teaching philosophy that effectively helps students develop playing technique, musicality, aural skills and professional performance manners. In 2018, Janetta started to offer group classes of solfeggio and ear training in her studio, which help students better understand music theory as well as discover more possibilities of students' own voice -- these are extremely essential to learn to play an instrument.
